Smile On Four: Feel and See the Difference

The loss of teeth is a major problem that affects most people at some point. You may lose one, several, or even all of your teeth because of dental traumas, gum disease, injuries, or other factors. Dental implants are widely considered the ideal option for tooth replacement because they replace the root structures of your missing teeth, providing a firm and solid foundation for the crown.

Until recently, most patients used uncomfortable dentures to replace a complete arch of missing teeth. But not anymore. The Smile On Four (All On Four) procedure is now considered the gold standard for same-day, full-mouth teeth replacement, using as few as four dental implants on each arch. Dr. Pourshirazi curates a personalized dental implant treatment plan to give you a second chance with All On Four in Burbank for your ideal smile.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a titanium screw that is drilled into the jawbone underneath the empty socket of a missing tooth. Over time, this screw becomes an integrated part of your dental anatomy, essentially replacing the missing tooth’s root. After the healing period, the implant will be able to support a prosthetic crown or bridge, thereby replacing the missing teeth. Until recently, dental implants replaced missing teeth at a 1:1 ratio, i.e., one dental implant per missing tooth.

Dr. Pourshirazi was excellent, he was caring, took the time to talk, and then listened to my concerns and wishes. I wholeheartedly enjoyed my initial visit at this office. The staff seems to be awesome and I look forward to having dental work done here. Thank you for such a warm, welcoming, and caring first visit!

What Exactly is Smile On Four?

Most people have heard of All On 4, a procedure in which four titanium posts are inserted into the upper arch or lower arch as the main anchors and support system for a permanent denture. Smile On Four is our version of this procedure.

Our All On Four Implants in Burbank, called Smile On Four, is a procedure that facilitates the replacement of a complete arch of missing teeth with as few as four implants. The areas where your dental implants can be placed will be strategically selected.

You may need 4, 6, 8, or more implants depending on the general health of your jawbone. Once the implants are placed, a complete denture can be supported.

Smile On Four (All On Four) is not a cookie-cutter treatment plan; rather, your teeth will be carefully examined to curate a personalized treatment plan just for you.

How Smile On Four (All On 4) Implants Work

During your consultation for your All On Four implants in Burbank, Dr. Pourshirazi will perform a thorough assessment of your teeth and jawbone. Based on your unique condition, he will determine the number of implants necessary and the appropriate angles of insertion.

If you have an insufficient jawbone, Dr. Pourshirazi may need to perform a sinus graft or bone grafting. These are standard procedures that facilitate jawbone regeneration and provide a more stable and solid base for the implants.

In some cases, the lower portion of the cheekbones might be used to ground the dental implants. This is also a standard procedure.

During the actual implant surgery (done under anesthesia), Dr. Pourshirazi places 4, 6, 8, or more implants into strategic locations on your jawbone. Once the implants are placed, you’ll receive a complete set of “healing teeth” for a period of 4-6 months. During this time, your bone tissues will fuse with the implants via a process called “osseointegration”.

After the osseointegration process is complete, the healing teeth will be replaced with the finals. Dr. Pourshirazi will adjust the shape, size, fit, and color of the finals according to your specific requirements to ensure they look and feel completely natural. The final result of your Smile On Four in Burbank will be indistinguishable from natural teeth — one of our patients’ favorite parts.

Recovery from Smile On Four (All On 4)

The majority of patients are can return to work in 2-3 days, but will need to adhere to a strict liquid and soft food diet during the healing period. Because your implants will be integrating, it’s very important to carefully follow the instructions we provide you with. Some helpful tips include:

  • Don’t rinse with water on the first day
  • Don’t touch any tender areas
  • Avoid smoking, as it will impact healing
  • Avoid doing anything that may disrupt your stitches
  •  Use a soft toothbrush and be sure to brush very gently and slowly

Who is a Candidate for Smile On Four?

If you’re in the Burbank area and you’re interested in the Smile On Four (All On 4) procedure, you may be the perfect candidate. Your free consultation will involve taking x-rays and scans to examine your dental anatomy and the extent of bone loss you have.

A CT scan will map your jawbone to help us place the properly sized implants in the correct location of your jaw. In addition, this scan shows us where there’s loss of jawbone or infection. This is how we will determine if the All On Four in Burbank is right for you.

In general, good candidates for Smile On Four (All On Four) will meet the following criteria:

  • Have lost all or most of their teeth
  • Need to have all of their teeth removed
  • Have experienced bone loss, but have enough bone available to hold the implants in place

What if I’m Not a Candidate?

If the CT scans show that you’re not a candidate, we can plan for sinus lift grafting, bone block grafting, and other kinds of bone grafting techniques to prepare your jawbone for the Smile On Four procedure. If the large grafts aren’t an option or if we don’t want to wait for the recovery time that large bone grafting takes, then the CT scan can evaluate the zygoma bone to determine if you’re a candidate for zygoma implants, which are also an option.

Your Next Steps

If you’re in the Burbank area and you’re ready to begin your Smile On Four (All On 4) journey, here are the steps to take:

  • Call us and schedule a free consultation.
  • Come in for the consultation. You’ll receive a free CT scan, doctor exam, and custom treatment plan developed specifically for you.
  • Our treatment coordinator will go over financing options, including partial in-house financing.
  • If you decide to move forward, we will (that same day) take impressions, “before” photos, and measurements. We'll also plan out your surgery day.
  • Come in for your surgery. We will make sure you’re comfortable, and the procedure for your All On Four Implants in Burbank will begin. You will have surgery and a beautiful set of teeth loaded and fixed onto your implants that day. These teeth will serve during your healing phase for several months, and once the gums have healed and matured and the implants have fused with the bone, you will come back.
  • Digital impressions and measurements will be done. We will do this with our in-house equipment, and we will then start creating your final set of teeth. There are a couple of options, but most patients receive a full-arch zirconia final set of teeth. This product is highly esthetic, natural-looking, and comfortable.
  • You will come back in and receive your final set of teeth. From here, we remind you that they have a five-year warranty. You are also reminded to come in every six months for checkups and cleanings.
